The method looks good, the only things i cannot limit myself are tops (t-shirts) and underwear, living in a really hot climate, at least they do not take up much room in my suitcase 😅. Also regarding the bag, we take a backpack with external pockets for the kids' waterbottles and a crossbody for the personal items
